The Addison Citizens Academy offers Addison residents a unique opportunity to gain insight into their town's governance and operations. Participants engage in a series of sessions designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of municipal functions, facilitated by tours, activities, and direct interaction with town leaders and staff.

Objective of a Citizens Academy

To educate residents about the workings of Addison's government and foster greater civic engagement.

Duration & Content*

The 2024 Citizens Academy will take place over the course of five sessions:

  • Sessions 1 to 4 will occur on the following Saturdays from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm:
    • September 14 at the Addison Conference Centre
    • September 28 at the Addison Athletic Club and Addison Airport
    • October 12 at North Texas Emergency Communications Center (NTECC)
    • October 19 at Central Fire Station and Police Station
  • Session 5 will be Tuesday, October 22, from 6:30 to 8 pm at Addison Conference Centre, featuring a reception with the Mayor and City Council Members and recognition during the Regular Council meeting.

Presentations will be made by Addison’s City Manager, Department Directors, and Town staff. Participants will tour the Town and its facilities with opportunities to interact with staff and some of the equipment used to carry out the business of the Town.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage with their municipal leaders and gain first-hand knowledge of town operations, enhancing their ability to serve on advisory bodies and increase their civic engagement.
