The Silver Line team shared a project update at its biannual meeting on February 12. Testing of the new trains has already begun in Plano and should begin in Addison at the end of March or early April. Testing on the full length of the track from Plano to DFW Airport is expected to start at the end of the third quarter of 2025, with service beginning by the end of the year.
The Addison station, which was the prototype station for the others on the line, is 90% complete and 95% of the rail crossings in town are complete. To date, there have been more than 245,000 linear feet of track laid for this project.
Once revenue service begins, trains will run every thirty minutes during peak weekday hours (6 -9am and 4 - 7pm) and every hour during all other weekday service times and on weekends from 4am - 12:30am. The schedule can be changed as needed to accommodate special events.
The Silver Line project includes the adjacent Cotton Belt Regional Hike & Bike Trail. The Cotton Belt Trail is a part of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) Mobility 2045 Regional Veloweb Trail network, with phases being built in conjunction with the Silver Line through a partnership with NCTCOG and the cities within the corridor. The contract for Phase 2 of the trail, which will extend from Plano to Addison, will be awarded in the next few months. Construction on this phase is anticipated to be completed in 2027.
